Students go through writing process to develop a script (brainstorm, draft, revise, and edit), presenting the final version to the class. Next, they develop characters by brainstorming features/characteristics, generating model sheets, and creating a maquette with modeling clay. Storyboards are created to visually understand the action/pacing of the stories and used to pitch their cartoons. Next, they create a 2D version of the story in animatic format, using Adobe Flash. After presenting the animatics, they use Autodesk Maya to construct the environments, objects, effects and characters, then begin animating each scene. Students edit completed scenes and add any needed voiceovers in iMovie. Students present final projects to peers and discuss the experience.

Submitted by T.S. King Magnet MS in LAUSD for the 2010 Digital Voice Awards, this project won for Secondary Computer Animation for Student Team.
