In Spite of Everything, A Tale of Hope and Courage
On Jun 8, 2006, Gittal Nagel, a Holocaust survivor, shared with the students of Mr. Mitchell's Fourth grade class her experiences as a child growing up in Amsterdam during World War II. A month prior to Mrs. Nagel's visit, students had read an excerpt from Anne Frank's diary and had been learning about World War II era history of the Holocaust and the Nazis, and the treatment of people of Jewish descent, creating cultural connections and understanding. This film documents the questions, observations, and sentiments of the children as they prepared for Mrs. Nagle's visit, as well as Mrs. Nagel's profound personal story of hope and courage.

Submitted by Rosewood Avenue Elem in LAUSD for the 2007 Digital Voice Awards, this project won for Teacher Created Video Production for Individual Teacher.
